Bret Davis - Another Petite Pooch Chateau Dog Grooming Academy Success!

June 9th, 2008

Mr. Bret Davis is a big guy with a BIG heart. He attended the Petite Pooch Chateau Dog Grooming Academy and graduated in 2007. He is now a Certified Professional Groomer and he is passionate about what he does. He opened up his shop in his home in Carrollton, Texas and he invited me, Norma Gonzales, School Director, for a tour of his business…Wow! Am I impressed! His shop is located in what used to be his garage. The garage has been converted into an upscale grooming salon. It is clean, pleasant, well-decorated, the music is soothing, the fountain is calming and the grooming equipment is modern. Bret can groom cats as well as dogs and he’s available for appointments now. I’m so proud of him. So, give him a call. The name of his grooming salon is BD Paw Spa and I recommend him highly! Call for an appointment at 214-404-1295. He is located off of George Bush Freeway between Frankford and Josey and services the North Carrollton area. He has incorporated everything he was taught at the Academy and he reflects everything the school is all about…We know that he will be a success!

3 Dreaded Words in Grooming “Dematt”"Deep-Brush”"Strip”

May 24th, 2008

These are the 3 dreaded words Professional Groomers absolutely hate to say…and those are the same 3 words that clients hate to hear. For Professional Groomers and Grooming Salon Managers these words send chills up their backs and make their hearts quiver because they know that they will have to invoice and collect more in fees from their clients above and beyond what the usual grooming fee is. Giving this type of news to clients isn’t pleasant…or easy.  Discussion regarding fees isn’t a popular one. Conflict and ill-will is anticipated…when the news is received positively, it is appreciated by the grooming personnel. Many times Salon Managers will simply forgive the fees rather than add the additional fees to the grooming invoice…which then leads to ill-will with the Professional Groomer as they are not reimbursed for their expertise, time, or effort associated with any one of these processes.

Dog Grooming…It’s Gonna Be a Hot Summer!

May 19th, 2008

Just thought I’d post a reminder to all pet parents to let them know that shaving their dogs down to the skin may not be a good idea. Dogs can suffer from sunburn just like we can. If shaving is absolutely necessary make sure you check with your veterinarian about the best way to shield your dog from overexposure to the sun. Sunblock may very well be in order. Outdoor dogs need shade, a cool area to rest and of course, don’t forget to fill up that water bowl often throughout the day. A little ice in the water wouldn’t be such a bad idea either. When possible try to keep the dog’s natural coat…it keeps dogs cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Brushing and combing your dog’s fur is imperitive to maintaining a matt/tangle-free coat. This is particularly necessary for any pooch who loves the water…tangles and matts only get worse after wet fur dries. It’s gonna be a hot Texas summer…keep your pooches safe! Maintaining the proper haircut for the summer will help.
