“Ugly” Dogs Need Love, Too!

We’re fostering 3 doggies right now and I heard someone who looked at them the other day say, “Those dogs will never find homes because they’re ugly”. Sounds like a cruel thing to say out loud…but unfortunately, it’s probably true.

I’ve spoken to many shelter managers and they tell me that dogs who are black in color, short-haired, and timid usually don’t get adopted. Unfortunately, these 3 pooches have all of these characteristics.

People stereotype other folks all the time, let’s not carry that very human behavior over to our little doggie friends. Please see these little babies for the innocent “furry kids” that they are.

If you’re thinking about adding to your family…please consider those dogs who are, on the surface, traditionally seen as unadoptable.

They are the elderly, those with medical conditions, black/short-haired pooches, those who are quiet/timid, those who may have special needs.

Please remember, these pooches need love and homes, too!

  1. I wholeheartedly agree.

I adopted a dog almost a year ago who one of my friends nicknamed “Ugly Dog”. Said she looked like a muppet. And you know what? I couldn’t care less. She’s beautiful to me. :)

  4. Who would think that a black, fuzzy, one-eyed, crooked teeth and a grimace that looks like Popeye would be the absolute adorable love of your life? That’s what happened when I fostered whom I now call Sailor. He is the perfect dog; and obeys, loves, and lives to please. I’m so glad I looked past the facial features and found a true love.

Look past the ugly! (We always spell the “U” word!)
