A 2007 Thanksgiving Reflection of Good Things at Petite Pooch

November 18th, 2007

My family and I have a tradition…before we dig into the Thanksgiving feast in front of us, one of us makes a little speech/prayer then we go around the table and each person tells the rest of us what they are thankful for. I would like to do that now…I’m thankful for:

  • my huband, my parents, my in-laws, my brothers, and my 7 dogs;
  • the wonderful people I work with;
  • the customers/pooches who come to Petite Pooch Chateau & Petite Pooch Plus;
  • the students/graduates who come to/graduate from Petite Pooch Chateau Dog Grooming Academy;
  • my health, the roof over my head, the comfortable life that is mine;
  • my incredible career as a nurse, a corporate director, and as an entrepeneur;
  • my landlords who allow me the opportunity to conduct business in stress-free environments;
  • the troops who keep us safe and their families who who make the ultimate sacrifice.

Pet Parents…Ten Commandments to Follow

November 15th, 2007

I.  My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you will be painful for me…Remember that BEFORE you get me.
II. Give me time to understand what you want from me.
III. Place your trust in me. It is crucial to my well-being.
IV. Don’t be angry with me for long, & please don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, entertainment & friends…I only have YOU.
V. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand your voice.
VI. Be aware that however you treat me…I’ll never forget.
VII. Please don’t hit me. I can’t hit back, but I can bite & scratch and I really don’t want to do that.
VIII. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right foods or I’ve been out in the sun too long or my heart is getting old and weak.
IX. Take care of me when I get old. You, too, will grow old one day.
X. Go with me on that difficult journey. NEVER say, “I can’t bear to watch, or let it happen in my absence.” Everything is easier for me when YOU are there…Remember, I LOVE YOU!!

Poop Patrol in the Park…Doggie Waste & Responsible Pet Parents

November 11th, 2007

Wow, what a beautiful day! I decided to leash up my two Bostons (Sailor Boy and Opus) and take them to the park. They were having a wonderful time and I was having a good walk with them until…I stepped in dog poop. What a bummer! Had to stop, take off my shoe, find something to scrape the mess off of the bottom of my sneaker, coordinate the two leashes & dogs while I tried to balance on one foot.
